darkdanc3r: You're too stupid to save. (Beyond Saving)

As if I needed more proof, my karmic debt/curse struck again today. I received one of the best Valentine's Gifts ever: my acceptance letter to grad school. I was elated, bouncy, delighted that something was working out for once.

Leaving work, I decided to go to Wal-mart to get cat litter and milk. I thought about going to a Wal-mart that's a little more directly between work and home, but I like going to the other one because I've made a friend there, and she works on Monday nights. I really should have gone to the Grindstone store. Just past my exit there was an accident that left bits of scattered glass and who knows what else littering the only open lane on the highway. And it was quite literally a fresh wreck - the ambulance was just pulling away. I was skittish, especially when I heard something start thumping from the front end of the car - it was the same noise my tire made the last time one of them was screwed up. There's not really anywhere safe to pull over on 63 highway in the middle of the night, so I kept going to Wal-mart.

I honestly don't think I would have made it all the way home. I pulled up under one of the lights to get a closer look at my tires. There's an inch and a half long steel spring in my front driver's side tire. And you can hear the air hissing out of the tire. Called the insurance company - they're pretty sure there's probably nothing they can do, since I didn't pull over immediately. I might have more debris thrown up inside my undercarriage, but I can't tell because I can't see that well under there even with a flash light.

Insurance company told me that I'd have to pay a tow truck to come out and help me change my tire. I'd do it myself, but I don't have the arm strength to get the lug nuts off. And I don't have the money to get help. Another customer at the store overheard me talking to the insurance agency, and offered to help. He got the donut on the car, making a little small talk while he dealt with the tire. When he asked me if I had a partner, and I answered in the negative, he asked if I'd like to go see a movie with him.

As if I didn't feel shitty enough, I had to politely turn him down.

I'm just not up for a relationship right now. Really I'm not.

Now I have to decide between getting my tire patched/replaced and my engine checked over, or paying my electric bill once I finally get my next unemployment check on Wednesday.

I don't know what I've done or who I've pissed off, in this life or any other, but it must have been something massive.

I just wish they'd stop taking it out on my car. I'm pretty sure she's innocent.
